MR. RAMAN SARAF
Q. With exports spanning over 40 countries, how is Nirmal Wires strategizing to further penetrate international markets? Are there specific regions or countries you are targeting for expansion?
We have built a robust global presence, exporting to over 42 countries across key markets including Japan, Africa, Europe, and the Americas. As a Government of India-recognized 2 Star Export House, we’re committed to delivering products that meet the highest international standards of quality and reliability. Our global expansion strategy focuses on securing internationally recognized certifications and offering high-quality, application-specific product solutions. Recognition as the first Indian company to receive the JIS (Japanese Industrial Standards) certification for Galvanized Wires has significantly strengthened our position in precision-driven markets like Japan. Continued efforts are now being directed toward achieving similar certifications that align with the technical and regulatory demands of each region. This approach not only reinforces customer trust but also enables us to meet evolving industry needs across sectors such as power transmission, general engineering, fencing, and infrastructure development worldwide.
Q. The company has announced a ?100 crore investment to boost production capacity in Orissa and West Bengal. Could you elaborate on how this capital expenditure will enhance your market position and meet growing demand?
We are undertaking a ?100 crore capacity expansion to significantly increase our monthly output to 7,000 tons in steel wire and 5,000 tons in aluminum across our Khordha (Odisha) and Deulti (West Bengal) facilities. The Khordha unit will receive the larger share of investment, while the Deulti plant will see targeted upgrades. This expansion is scheduled for completion within the calendar year, supported by our established production systems and efficient lead times.
This plan goes beyond scaling volume. It’s a strategic step to enhance our responsiveness to growing market demand across sectors like power, construction, agriculture, and railways. It reflects our commitment to maintaining high product quality, ensuring timely delivery, and strengthening customer trust. By investing now, we are securing our ability to meet future requirements more efficiently, while reinforcing our position as a reliable and forward-looking industry leader focused on sustainable growth.
Q. Given the increasing focus on renewable energy, how is Nirmal Wires aligning its product offerings to cater to this sector? Are there any new products or collaborations in the pipeline?
With the growing push for cleaner, more efficient power infrastructure, there’s a rising need for durable conductors and advanced cable systems tailored to renewable energy projects. From solar and wind farms to smart grid upgrades and rural electrification, the demand for high-performance transmission products is rapidly increasing. We are actively responding to this shift by strengthening our conductor portfolio with solutions like AL?59, ACAR, ACSS, and AACSR, designed to handle high current loads with minimal energy loss, making them ideal for renewable energy transmission. Our state-of-the-art Khordha facility also produces EC-grade aluminium rods that ensure reliable conductivity for power applications. Additionally, we’ve introduced “Nirmal Cables” with LT PVC, LT XLPE, and LT AB variants that offer UV resistance, robust insulation and flame retardancy- features crucial for rooftop solar and smart distribution networks.
Q. How is your latest innovation, Niznal®, positioned to be a game-changer in the power sector? What makes it the ‘future of GI Wire’ and how does it address current industry challenges?
Niznal® is a breakthrough in our decades-long journey within the power sector. This zincaluminium alloy coated steel wire is engineered to outperform conventional hot-dip galvanised wires, delivering up to 6 times the lifespan under similar environmental conditions. Such longevity directly addresses one of the industry’s biggest challengesfrequent maintenance and replacement by drastically reducing life cycle costs and enhancing long-term reliability. What makes Niznal® the “future of GI wire” is its unique blend of high corrosion resistance, superior mechanical strength, and compatibility with existing infrastructure. In an era where power infrastructure must evolve to meet green energy goals, Niznal® enables a more sustainable approach through increased efficiency and product life. With over 50 years of expertise in manufacturing ASTM A, B, and C grade coatings, we see Niznal® not just as a product innovation, but as a strategic shift, pushing the boundaries of performance, durability, and environmental alignment in modern power networks.
Q. The company is expanding into cable production. What motivated this diversification, and how do you plan to position your cable products in the market?
With growing demand for reliable last-mile connectivity, driven by urban development, industrial corridors, renewable energy projects and smart grid systems, the limitations of bare conductors have become increasingly evident. Hence, we expanded into cable production to not only meet industry needs but also as a forward integration initiative, building on our expertise in bare steel wires, aluminum conductors and PVC sheathing for wires. The decision allowed us to offer integrated, high-performance power transmission solutions, significantly strengthening our position in the value chain. Our range of LT PVC, LT AB, and LT XLPE insulated cables meet diverse performance and installation requirements with enhanced insulation, armouring, thermal endurance and load-bearing capacity. Our cables are ideal for underground, compact, or sensitive environments. While bare conductors remain vital for overhead transmission, our cables improve system efficiency, reduce power losses, and enhance safety. Looking ahead, we aim to position our cable products as a reliable, futureready choice for utilities, developers, and EPC contractors across India.
Q. Sustainability is a key focus area. What initiatives has Nirmal Wires undertaken to promote environmental responsibility in its operations?
At Nirmal Wires, sustainability is not just a goal, but an integral part of how we operate. Our Deulti manufacturing unit, spread across 25 acres, is a highly efficient facility designed to minimize raw material wastage and reduce excessive by product generation. With automation and inhouse developed tracking systems, we ensure consistency, safety and minimal energy and material loss across production.
The use of coal gas instead of furnace oil has significantly lowered our carbon emissions. We have also installed an efficient ETP (effluent treatment plant) that recycles 100% of the effluent water before discharge. Additionally, we are actively reducing the use of acids, lubricants, and other pollutants to further minimize our environmental footprint.
Our products also reflect our commitment to sustainability. Solutions like NIZNAL® Wires and conductors such as AL-59, ACAR, and ACSS are engineered for durability and efficiency, supporting India’s renewable energy and smart grid infrastructure. From lowering life cycle costs to enabling reliable transmission, we’re driving sustainability at both the process and product level for a cleaner, more efficient future
