India set ambitious decarbonization goals, two months before COP27, the 27th United Nations climate summit, which took place from November 6 to 20.While India's finance minister, Nirmala Sitharaman was working on a fresh announcement three days before the country's environment minister boarded a plane for Egypt to attend Cop27, this year's UN climate summit. Sitharaman, speaking at the opening of India's largest-ever coal mine auction, where 141 new coalmine sites would be auctioned off to the highest bidder, stated that "India needs higher investment in coal production."
