Petronas has achieved a key step in Malaysia’s clean energy transition by delivering its first locally produced Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) to Malaysia Airlines. The delivery highlights the country’s growing commitment to reducing carbon emissions in the aviation sector and strengthening its role in the global sustainable fuel market.

 

The SAF was produced through Petronas’ integrated facilities and supplied directly for use in Malaysia Airlines’ commercial operations. This marks the beginning of domestic-scale adoption of SAF, which is designed to cut greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80 percent compared to conventional jet fuel.

 

Officials from both companies emphasized that the collaboration reflects Malaysia’s ambition to support international aviation sustainability targets while enhancing local energy innovation.

 

With this milestone, Petronas joins the ranks of global energy companies actively scaling SAF production. The partnership with Malaysia Airlines is expected to pave the way for wider adoption of sustainable fuels across the country’s aviation industry in the coming years.
