The West Bengal government has announced plans to set up a 660 megawatt (MW) thermal power plant in Durgapur, marking a significant step in strengthening the state’s energy infrastructure.

 

The project is aimed at meeting the growing electricity demand in the region and ensuring reliable power supply for industries and households. Once operational, the plant is expected to enhance grid stability and support the state’s economic growth, particularly in industrial hubs like Durgapur and Asansol.

 

State officials highlighted that the project will be developed with modern technology to improve efficiency and minimize emissions, aligning with India’s broader focus on balancing energy security with sustainability goals.

 

The move comes as West Bengal continues to expand its power generation capacity through a mix of conventional and renewable sources to cater to rising consumption needs.
