Tata Power-DDL Partners with Magna Yuma to Establish Battery-Swapping Stations in Delhi

04 Aug 2025

In a step aimed at accelerating clean mobility in the capital, Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL) has partnered with Magna Yuma Private Limited to set up battery-swapping stations for electric vehicles in North Delhi. The initiative is designed to support the growing fleet of electric two- and three-wheelers, especially those used in last-mile delivery and gig-based transportation services.

As part of the collaboration, Tata Power-DDL will provide space at two of its key grid locations Shalimar Bagh Centre Grid and Badli Grid for the development of battery-swapping infrastructure. Magna Yuma will handle the installation, operation, and maintenance of these stations, which are expected to significantly improve access to fast and reliable energy solutions for EV users in the area.

This project aims to reduce the downtime faced by EV drivers during charging by offering a quicker alternative through battery swaps. It also reflects a broader push towards sustainable urban transport and clean energy integration. In addition to easing the challenges of charging in densely populated zones, the swapping model is expected to discourage unregulated electricity use, promote shared mobility, and support youth engaged in the delivery and ride-hailing sectors.

Tata Power-DDL officials noted that the partnership aligns with their vision of building a robust, eco-friendly mobility ecosystem while empowering local communities. With Delhi witnessing a rapid rise in electric vehicle adoption, such initiatives are crucial to building efficient and scalable infrastructure that keeps pace with demand.

The battery-swapping stations at Shalimar Bagh and Badli are just the beginning, with the model holding potential for wider replication across other parts of the city and beyond.
