Odisha Approves 178 MW of Renewable Energy Projects with ?8.70 Billion Investment Boost

30 Jul 2025

The Odisha government has given the green light to renewable energy projects totaling 178 megawatts (MW), with an estimated investment of ?8.70 billion. This strategic decision is part of the state’s broader push to diversify its energy portfolio and reduce its reliance on conventional power sources.

The approved projects include both solar and non-solar renewable ventures that are expected to enhance clean energy availability across Odisha. According to officials, these projects will be implemented through private developers under various policy frameworks designed to attract green investments and fast-track renewable energy adoption in the state.

The fresh investments will contribute significantly to Odisha’s goals of promoting sustainable development, reducing carbon emissions, and aligning with India’s national renewable energy targets. The projects are also expected to create employment opportunities during both construction and operational phases, while improving electricity access in remote and underserved regions.

The Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA) will facilitate the implementation of these initiatives and ensure compliance with environmental and technical standards. Additionally, the state government is working on improving transmission infrastructure and grid integration to support the influx of green energy.

With this move, Odisha is reinforcing its commitment to becoming a leader in clean energy growth, encouraging innovation, and supporting climate-resilient infrastructure for a sustainable future.
