The government led by the TDP in Andhra Pradesh has restructured the state's power utilities by enlisting experts from prominent organisations such as NTPC and SBI to enhance transparency and operational effectiveness, according to sources. The ruling coalition, under the TDP, committed to reforming the electricity sector, minimising power losses, and bringing down tariffs.

Upon taking office, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu published a white paper indicating that the overall debt of the state's power utilities had escalated from ?62,826 crore in the fiscal year 2018-19 to ?1,12,422 crore in the fiscal year 2023-24. The report underlined a notable decline in various critical performance indicators of Andhra Pradesh's power utilities.

In a significant move towards achieving the objective, the electricity firms – Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation Limited (APGENCO), Andhra Pradesh Transmission Corporation Limited (APTRANSCO), and three distribution entities – the Central Power Distribution Company of AP Ltd, the Eastern Power Distribution Company of AP Ltd, and the Southern Power Distribution Company of AP Ltd – have undergone restructuring with the appointment of senior management from various sectors, as per the report.
