EESL will retrofit 10 lakh street lights in AP

EESL will retrofit 10 lakh conventional street lights with LED lights in Gram Panchayats of 7 districts in Andhra Pradesh. This is the first project for rural LED street lighting in the country under Street Lighting National Project (SLNP), the EESL said in a statement. According to the statement, the project is specifically designed for the people living in villages. The replacement drive will help gram panchayats cumulatively save approximately 147 million units of electricity annually, and lead to reduction of 12 Cr tonnes of CO2. The entire upfront capital cost of this project is being funded by French Development Agency Agence Française de Développement (AFD). As part of the project, the EESL has agreed to carry out the entire annual maintenance and warranty replacement in these gram panchayats for a period of 10 years. Under Street Lighting National Programme (SLNP), the government aims to replace 1.34 crore conventional street lights across the country.

Saudi company sign pact with EESL for energy efficiency programmes

EESL has signed an MoU with National Energy Services Company of Saudi Arabia to implement energy efficiency programmes and scale-up demand side measures. As per the pact, EESL will provide consultancy and expand the capacity of National Energy Services Company, which is instituted by Saudi Arabia, to execute energy efficiency programs. The agreement comes in the wake of the Arab Kingdom working ardently towards reducing its power subsidies and introducing energy efficiency initiatives. With rapidly increasing population coupled with soaring energy prices, the electricity demand of Saudi Arabia is growing at a rapid pace. So far, EESL has retrofitted over 23 crore LED bulbs and 20 crore smart LED streetlights across India through self- sustaining commercial models. As of now, EESL has begun its operations in UK, South Asia and South-East Asia.

TCS Creates Solution that cuts energy consumption using self-learning algorithms

Country's largest software exporter TCS has said it has created a solution that will cut payback on expensive LED lights by half. The software, which comes amid a greater thrust on Smart Cities, cuts energy consumption using self-learning algorithms and will reduce the typical 4-5 year payback on the lights to just 2-3 years, the Tata group company said in a statement. The intelligent urban exchange (IUX) for adaptive streetlight optimization will also enable cities to jump start smart city projects in other domains, such as water and transportation, by leveraging smart streetlight WAN and a common data analytics platform, it said. The statement said streetlights account for up to 50% of a city's energy budget and claimed Co. solution which is designed for both LED and conventional lighting, acts as an "energy advisor" for policymakers.
